Serene Luxury Sri Lanka Hotel – Tri Lanka

Serene Luxury Sri Lanka Hotel – Tri Lanka

If you have been following me on Instagram, you would have seen that I stayed in the most beautiful luxury Sri Lanka hotel set beside a lake called Tri Hotel. It truly is a hidden gem and if you’re looking for somewhere to chill out in the most spectacular surroundings, it is perfect! Let me show you why:

Uniqueness

I loved everything about the way Tri Hotel is set up. It is the first time that I’ve stayed in a hotel that felt super luxe but without sacrificing environmental sustainability. Luxury Sri Lanka Hotel

My first night in Tri hotel was spent in a water tower room, which is located in the cinnamon clad water tower which houses the water supply for the hotel. How cool is that? As far as I know, no other luxury hotel in Sri Lanka has such a unique and innovative design.

I was  thrilled with my water tower room even though it was the most affordable room in the hotel, so I was over the moon on the second day when Oliver (the manager) surprised me with an upgrade to a Lake suite. I have been lucky to stay in some amazing hotel suites, but Tri’s Lake suite room is high up there as one of my absolute favourites!

I spent three nights in the Lake suite and woke up everyday at 5.30am to see the sunrise. Even if you’re not an early riser, I would absolutely recommend kicking yourself out of bed for this view. The pictures truly do not do it enough justice!

Whenever I could tear myself away from my hotel room, I could be found in the pool area either reading a book, devouring some yummy snacks or taking a dip in the spectacular infinity pool which was the most refreshing way to escape the heat of the mid-day sun!

Quiet Location hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the main towns in southern Sri lanka

Its secluded location right next to koggala lake made it the best place for a relaxing and mindful retreat away from the tourist havens of Unwatana and Galle. That said, if you get bored of eating good food, tanning, enjoying peace and quiet and want some more action – Galle is only 45 minutes away from Tri and it is a lovely way to spend a day out.

Privacy

Tri has this special vibe that makes you feel like you are the only person in the world enjoying the gorgeous surroundings. This is mostly due to the fact that there are only 11 villas on the grounds, some of whom have their own private pools, so the hotel feels very intimate.

Activities

Tri has a schedule of activities for guests to partake in – including yoga, cycling through the local villages and a trip to nearby cinnamon island to visit a cinnamon plantation farm to learn how that spice is cultivated.

Quirk to note for solo travellers…

Unfortunately as a solo traveller, you cannot count on being able to do the resort yoga session unless the hotel decides that enough people want to participate in the class. The opportunity to practice quantum yoga with  Lara Drummond was one of the main reasons I booked the hotel so not being able to have any of those classes during my four day stay put a dampener on my otherwise great experience at Tri. There is the option to pay for a private class at around $80 dollars per hour but I was not keen on that given that the resort session is usually around a third of that price. The hotel manager was apologetic about this, and I ended up doing my yoga classes in private using the guidance of youtube teachers (thankfully, the internet at Tri is great!).

I understand from staff in the hotel and other online reviews that the morning yoga sessions are usually quite popular so I guess I was just unlucky but I wanted to let you guys know about this quirk so that you can have a contingency plan if you’re coming to Tri for a solo (self organised) yoga retreat like me!

Welcoming experience

All in all I had a fantastic stay, with great people, good food and wonderful surroundings. I would return to Tri in a heartbeat, the managers and staff made me feel welcome even as a solo traveller, and were accommodating to any requests – even going out of their way with special touches like inspirational notes, free food (always a way to my heart) and late checkout! If you’re planning on going to southern Sri Lanka, Tri hotel is worth a stay or even a day trip, to enjoy the splendour that is koggala lake!
